Sue Shipway

Background & History

My husband and I moved to Somerset from West Sussex ten years ago and we now live in Huish Episcopi.

After working as a Medical Secretary for several years I became a stay-at-home-mother with our five children. I became very involved in their respective schools on PTA’s and other Parent Groups, and since they left school, I have become a School Governor, which I enjoy immensely. I have gone into local schools with Open The Book, and I invigilate for school exams here in Somerset.  Whilst living near Petworth,  through the charity (Women’s) Royal Voluntary Service, I ran the Meals on Wheels Service for many years. Through the same charity when we moved to this area, I started taking Library Books to housebound people and have met some wonderful people over the years. I enjoy gardening, reading, and walking and spend a lot of my time with my new extended family and eight grandchildren.

Involvement

Julia Gadd introduced me to The Great Bow Wharf, and I think it is a very worthwhile community facility which needs support.

Goals for the Trust

For the GBW to become financially successful in order to maintain, and indeed improve, upon what it can offer the community it serves. The very limited onsite car parking naturally restricts its usage but the creative use of internal space for yoga, artisan projects, and pop-up exhibitions, with hot-desking, in addition to the cafe, seems to be working well and we are very fortunate to have such an excellent team always receptive to new ideas.
